Dry Cleaning does it’s bit for the environment

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

With the modern world being encouraged to do things to aid the protection of the environment and the world we live in it is becoming increasingly popular for businesses to get in on the act and do their bit. This helps businesses public relations and also puts their own contribution to saving the planet.

So what do dry cleaners do for the environment? Well you’d be surprised!

They have a service called Green Earth cleaning which uses pure silicone which is a safe solvent which is environmentally friendly.
Encouragements are made to recycle clothes when people want to simply get some new clothes although they don’t actually need to. This way it prevents the build up of clothes in landfill sites.

Dry Cleaning

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

Dry Cleaning is a method of cleaning that has been very popular for many years (since the early 20th century) but what make it different to any other cleaning of materials?

Well the difference with dry cleaning is that rather than water been used to clean a material a solvent is used to remove and stains, the solvent is usually tetrachloroethylene. This form of cleaning is required if the material to be cleaned could be damaged by water or soap detergent.

This process of cleaning was at one time undertaken in a separate factory/warehouse due to the risk of fire the solvents carried, the dry cleaned garments were then transported to the shops to be picked up by the customers.

Cleaning Your Trousers

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Lots of people go to work in pressed trousers but hoe many actually clean them on a regular basis? Some people will leave this as long as possible as it is too time consuming or annoying to pop down the dry cleaners and get your trousers sorted out.

This is important as trouser can become creased by your trousers rolling up when you sit down; the problem with this is that the creases are visible when you walk, so as a result action is required.

Your best bet is to get them down the dry cleaners for a clean and press, that way you get them in tip top condition for longer.

Does it Really Need to be Dry Cleaned?

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

I’ve lost track of the amount of times I’ve fallen in love with an item of clothing and only after I’ve taken it home have I discovered that it is a dry clean only garment. My heart used to sink at this point when I considered that this £40 short was now going to triple in cost over the next year or so.

After much searching on the internet for whether you could wash dry clean only clothes I decided to just bite the bullet and go for it.

My washing machine has a hand wash setting so I just put my delicate items in together and hang them up as soon as the cycle is over. So far I’ve been lucky!
